Our Story
Since 2001 BCA has been involved in bringing about the development of the Community Hall. This had been identified as the number one priority of the local community in a research document
“Brookside Farm development – a framework for Community participation. £500,00 had been levied on Redrow Housing and The National Trust as a consequence of Greenbelt land being made available for the building of the Stamford Brook Housing Development.
During the ensuing years different options were pursued but without any success. The most favourable of these was the possibility of a partnership between Broadheath Community Association and Broadheath Primary School but a number of issues stood in the way of this being realised.
In October 2011 BCA became a Limited Company. This was a course of action recommended by Trafford Housing Trust who we had approached with a view to it becoming our strengthening partner. In 2012 BCA entered into an informal partnership with THT. The main purpose of this partnership was to provide technical support as BCA was invited to enter into a three-way partnership which would see the development of a pub restaurant, a day nursery and community centre on the one site.
In 2015 Broadheath Community Association became a registered charity and the informal relationship with THT was superseded by a formal partnership with Anton Gables of Preston who became our Employers Agent. They would support us through the whole design and build process which would see us sign the lease that would confer the management and maintenance of the Community Hall to BCA.
On July 16th 2018, Broadheath Community Hall was handed over and became the responsibility of Broadheath Community Association.

By day, I’m a nurse and in my spare time, I volunteer as a Director for BCA; for a community dance group and for a NHS research ethics committee. I grew up in areas where community activities were easily accessible, and where volunteering was actively promoted to ensure these activities could be sustained. I relocated to Broadheath in 1994 and joined BCA as one of its founding members several years later, hoping that my children could benefit from a building such as the new Community Hall. As they are now adults, I hope the building we now have will serve our Community for many years to come and that people within our community will gain the confidence to develop new ways to bring people together.

I am a 50 something year old mother of 2 and joined BCA back in 2016, so am a relative newbie to the group ! In my day job I am experienced in managing, making decisions, multi-tasking and organising, which has helped me greatly in my role of Lettings Officer, setting up and managing the enquiries for our rooms at the hall. The number of enquiries and bookings we have received since the opening is really encouraging and I look forward to seeing the hall becoming a real focal point for the whole community. Broadheath Community Hall really is a fantastic building with great facilities.

I am a retired minister of religion and have lived in Broadheath for over 30 years. I worked for 25 years in the Social Care world – 14 years in community work and community development and for 11 years I was employed by The Children’s Society, the latter part of which as Regional Social Work Manager. I have been the Chair of BCA since 2001 (apart from two ‘rest years’) and for about 15 years I have been a governor at Broadheath Primary School. In addition to my theological qualification I have social work qualification (C.Q.S.W.) and a master’s degree in Management (M.Sc.mgt).

Raised in Broadheath, I am passionate about the local community. I chair a Residents Association which focuses on keeping Broadheath thriving. My lead profession is Teaching and I have worked in Primary Schools within the borough. I manage Stamford Brook Preschool which serves local families needing to access the funded hours and sit on Trafford’s Early Years Strategic Board.
Suzanne
Being very people-driven and heart-led, I have a passion for bringing people together. I currently have my own business in Broadheath providing holistic therapies, women’s coaching, and community meditation classes – some of which take place within our lovely hall. As a Director for BCA, I manage Community Engagement & Development, along with IT, Social Media & the BCH website. I have over 20 years of government and public sector work experience, giving me valuable skills to carry out this role the best I can. I also bring with me Mum and Grandma skills, which (you never know), I might need. As a very proud resident of Broadheath, I look forward to creating more togetherness and positive community spirit for years to come.
